Vaughan Williams 24 June 2009 at 15:24
I'm sorry to announce that Vaughan Williams died peacefully on his sleep last Sunday aged 63 after a brave battle against pancreatic cancer. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife Dorothy and children.

Vaughan was the RFU Council Representative for Students, and had represented the Students on the RFU Council since 2002 and had worked tirelessly on behalf of student rugby for many years.

He was also a past president of Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and former coach of the NLD senior county side.

His rugby commitments included being a member of the RFU ‘A’ List Referee Panel and a long-standing member of NLDRFURS.

Vaughan, who played international rugby for the Bahamas, was director of physical education at the University of Nottingham, a post he held for almost 33 years.

Under his leadership, University team performance was consistently ranked within the top 10 per cent of British universities. Elite performers such as former England hooker Brian Moore and Olympic Gold medal-winning canoeist Tim Brabants, received coaching and support from Vaughan during their student years.

Vaughan's funeral will take place at Nottingham Cathedral on Friday July 10 at 11am.
